Collectiv-e-motion is a real-time data mapping and crowd generated infographic installation exhibited at the Barbican centre as part of the Interfaces series.
The aim of this installation was to investigate the role of digital data visualisation in audience engagement and evaluation. Fundamentally it asks the questions: can data visualisation enhance participatory data collection processes? Is it possible to use data visualisation to improve communication and understanding between event producers and organisations and their audiences.
The piece consists of a live map of tweets from and about the Barbican centre. Users were invited to answer a simple question: what will you remember most about today? Participants tweeted their response and watched as the map lit up and keywords from their tweet were added to our audience word cloud. These words were then tracked around the world, illuminating the moment different countries were discussing similar themes and topics. In total, throughout the event, TEKJA processed over one million tweets.
