Prague Data Streams is a commissioned adaptation of Tekja’s London Data Streams installation that uses real time data from Twitter and Instagram to paint a digital portrait of the city of Prague. The piece analyses real time social media posts in English and Czech made in the Prague metropolitan area and runs sentiment analysis to pull out the words with the strongest positive/negative sentiment as well as the most popular emojis. The results are geolocated and displayed on a map that is constantly updating based on user input, capturing the mood of the citizens and tourists around the city in real time.
The piece is openly interactive, allowing anyone to contribute by posting text or images on Twitter to become part of the exhibit.
The exhibit aims to unveil the scale and nature of the data that we share on social media and to spark the debate about data ownership.
