What can electricity tell us about the cities and villages we live in? Winning a competitive call for artists for the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester, Tekja created a new data driven artwork that reveals the patterns, ebbs and flows of the electricity that powers the North West region. Powered by vast datasets of electricity usage for the region from Electricity North West. The project consists of large scale circuit diagrams, maps and animations covering Greater Manchester and its local landmarks, projected across the four walls of the installation to create an immersive data-driven experience.
Tekja’s visualisation of electricity distribution is both a spectacular experience and an opportunity to learn more about the networks we rely on. The work explores where electricity comes from, how it travels to our homes and businesses, and the changing daily dynamics of the increasingly electricity-driven world in which we live.
